Installation standard

Designed to perform and stay serviceable.

Clean wiring, correct fusing, secure mounting, ventilation and thoughtful integration matter as much as the equipment.

Evaluate

Listen to the factory system and define your priorities.

Design

Select compatible components and an upgrade path.

Install

Clean, protected, vehicle-conscious installation.

Tune

Verify operation and tune the system for the cabin.

Build your system

Start with what bothers you. We tell you the first fix.

Most systems should be built in stages. Tap the thing you notice most and see where the money goes first.

First upgrade

Add a subwoofer and a mono amp

Factory speakers are not built to move air below about 80 Hz. A single 10 or 12 inch sub with its own amplifier fills in the bottom end without touching the rest of the system. Keep the factory radio.

What goes in
  • Subwoofer: JL Audio Stealthbox if one exists for your vehicle, otherwise a loaded enclosure or custom box
  • Amplifier: mono, matched to the sub's RMS rating
  • Wiring: MESA Wire OFC kit, fused at the battery
  • Integration: line output converter so the factory radio stays
Path 1

Daily driver

Keep the factory radio. Fix the weakest link.

  • Front door speakers
  • Powered or loaded subwoofer
  • Factory integration, no cut wires

Path 2

Matched components, real power, tuned in the car.

  • Kenwood eXcelon head unit with wireless CarPlay
  • 4 or 5 channel amplifier
  • Component speakers front, coaxials rear
  • Subwoofer in a Stealthbox or custom enclosure
  • Sound treatment on the doors

Path 3

Custom

Fabrication, DSP and show-level finish.

  • AudioControl DSP with time alignment
  • Custom trunk, door and A-pillar fabrication
  • Multiple amplifiers on a built rack
  • Lighting and finishing to match the car

The GTO build, spot by spot

What a custom trunk looks like when nothing is off the shelf.

This Pontiac GTO came in for a sound system and left with a trunk built around it. Tap the dots. Every panel, the lighting, the enclosure and the wiring were done in our bay on Hammer Lane.

Pontiac GTO trunk build: JL Audio amplifier on a custom back panel with purple-lit angular cutouts, subwoofer flush in the floor, wrapped side panels

JL Audio amp, mounted where it can breathe

Centered on the back panel with open air on every side and the terminals reachable. Heat is what kills amplifiers. An amp buried behind a sealed panel runs hot and dies early; this one is on display and cool.

Before any car leaves

  • Factory functions kept
  • Power and ground metered
  • No rattles at full volume
